The numbers of Type 2 diabetes cases in children have hit an all-time high. The disease can lead to conditions like kidney and eye disease and a higher risk of stroke.

Inactivity leads to muscle weakness, a lack of motor skills, and poor flexibility. Every skill takes practice to perform adequately. Children need exercise to learn how to use their bodies properly. Children eventually become confident with their balance and coordination and their ability to remember routines. This confidence enables them to move on to other sports and to try competitive dance and gymnastics rather than just recreational classes, if they want. Each new routine, sport, or class introduces the child to different movements and skills that continue to improve their coordination.

Children that feel awkward and anxious because of their clumsiness may see their nervousness lead to more trips and falls. The achievements in dance or gymnastics can ease their anxiety until the self-consciousness fades away. Gymnastics and dance classes are fun and effective ways to help both boys and girls.
