Athlete Stories. Stories you might have missed 12th October Super League London, Alistair Brownlee takes on Badlands ultracycle and more swim, bike, run this weekend 3rd September In he took on the challenge of Ironman and earned a starting spot at the Ironman World Championships, where he finished 21st on debut.

He took the lessons learned in Kona to win Ironman Western Australia and break the course record. Despite conventional wisdom dictating Ironman blunts top-end speed, Alistair balanced both to narrowly miss out on Tokyo Olympic selection, all while nursing an ankle injury.

In June , Alistair will attempt to Defy The Impossible and become the first man to complete a full distance triathlon in under seven hours, as part of the Pho3nix Sub7Sub8 Project. And then there was his other pandemic project: writing a book—and, yes, he actually did all the interviews himself, took all the notes and transcripts, and co-wrote it with a writer. The book, Relentless , is a look at what it takes to not just be a success in sports but to go to that next level, not just one world title but many.

There were a few themes, he said: hard work, consistency, self belief which is different than confidence. And he found the whole process of conducting interviews with so many different athletes fascinating. He hopes to put together another book in the future. Johnny finished second behind his brother in Rio and is the younger brother by two years, their competitive attitude has been a major factor to their success. The final race of the triathlon season saw Alistair grab his brother who had begun to pass out from heat exhaustion in Mexico when he had a chance to win the race himself.

He went back for his brother and pulled his arm around his neck and even pushed him over the line to finish second. Alistair wants to run the London Marathon in something he has always wanted to do and with his record at triathlon you wouldn't put it past him on winning it. When he's not thinking about training for something, he likes the simple life of just catching up with friends.
